not MY daughter

at the beginning of first grade, the teachers do reading, writing and math assessments to discern a student's level as well as their strengths and weaknesses. the writing assessment came home today in my daughter's backpack. among the written pages was this one:
now personally, i think SHE has lost her minb if she likes spongebob better than any other tv show. why?? what is it about spongebob? does anybody get it? i can't believe that a child that sprang forth from my loins could like this show. i have seen every episode 42, 987 times (only a quarter as many as my friend kim has seen it) and i still don't understand. i am so baffled by her choice of animated shows. i mean, what's not to like about the fairly oddparents?? timmy turner ROCKS! floaty crowny things make me laugh! oh, and don't even get me started on foster's home for imaginary friends. the antics of that crazy bloo! pure entertainment.

so why does she watch hour upon hour of spongebob? *sob* why?

can anyone help me?

Sponge Bob Rocks! I love Patrick, he is really the brains of the operation.
My husband compares me to Timmy Turners mom. In that she gets really aggravated and sometimes threatens to eat the kitchen table. I don't know why he thinks that.

Oh I love me some absorbent and yellow and porous is he entertainment! Patrick is my favorite character though. He's so stupid it's funny. And the random intelligent and extremely articulate things that pop out of his mouth give him extra depth.

That said, I love Oddparents too. They way Timmy's dad screams like a little girl. Floaty crowny things make me laugh too. And Fosters? SIMPLY THE BEST. Maybe I'll get a Master Blooregard tattoo. Or one of Cheese.

I'm not going to be any help to you, Melissa. I absolutely hate Fairly Odd Parents. There's too much screaming and yelling and bickering. Drives me right up the wall. Spongebob, on the other hand is okay stuff.

I'm very impressed with your daughter's writing. Doing great for the beginning of 1st grade. And her picture's terrific.

Z. does too! AHHHHHHH! That show is evil. I think there is some hypnotic/subliminal message in it that only children respond too.

I like spongebob, but I hate when we're in the middle of a conversation about something else entirely, and Maya starts cracking up and says "I was just remembering this one time..." and then proceeds to tell me every.detail.twice. of a stupid episode.

But when I sit down and watch it, it's funny.

Hi there!
Came across your blog. This made me laugh, because I have two boys addicted to Spongebob. We are currently living in Europe, and everywhere we go, the portable dvd goes with us. Along with SpongeBob. So even though I haven't actually seen every episode, I think I've heard them. And I must say, even just listening to them, they make me smile. Maybe you should try just LISTENING to an episode ? :)
I think her writing looks great, btw, for a 1st grader. And I love her drawing. She is clearly more artsy than my two boys.
I will be checking in with you again!

Oh, Melissa, Melissa....I have to disagree with you on this one. We love Spongebob. Squidward ROCKS!!!

Foster's is another fave around here. They tend to repeat things waaaay too much for my taste, though. ["bleh-da bleh-da bleh-da bleh-da"...enough already!!] :)

Are you ready kids???? OOOOOO....

Sponge Bob has grown on us at our house. Plus, they say "stupid" way less than Fosters. (That's the big bad word in our house lately.) Plankton is the best!
love, jillius

I used to think spongebob was cute. However, whenever it is on, it is ALL yelling, screaming (and I'm talking blood curdling). If you listen to it, there is more time screaming in the show than not. This has definitely become a problem in this country. And geez, I wonder why there is so much adhd and such now??? It's not just spongebob, but things are going downhill FAST. Someone (like the FCC) needs to step in and DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! As parents we need to be more responsible about "the babysitter" that is television.
