happy 40th anniversary, mom and dad!

hi mom! hi dad!

i know, i know, i'm always a day late and a dollar short, but the kids had abducted the computer yesterday (playing toontown) and by the time they were done, i was too lazy. hey, at least the flowers arrived a day early, but only because the florist didn't deliver on sunday.

the point is, i wanted to say happy 40th anniversary to you... yesterday. thank you both for staying together and for showing us kids that marriage is not magically, mystically happy. happiness takes work and grit on the part of both spouses. this is a lesson that will serve all three of us kids throughout our lives.

you've been a great inspiration to me and my family. i'll commemorate your years together with the few historical photos i have in my archives... one from when you were dating (top), one from when you had a young family (what, 1980 or so?), and one from this past summer. i'm only sorry i don't have a wedding photo to pop in here.

i've rambled enough for the morning. still haven't had my coffee.

love, your daughter, melissa

p.s. happy labor day every (american) reader! and don't you canadians have labour day, too? or is that some other time of year?

Thank you so much for the wonderful tribute. You and Tommy have just what it takes to make a successful marriage!! You two are great together.

Really enjoyed the old photos. I must have been all of 17 in that first photo, and probably forced my "boyfriend" into going to the dance. Love to get dressed up, you know, girls just wanna have fun!

We were honored last night at a cocktail party at Leonardo's. All the gang was there. Champagne toasts, etc. Grandma provided wedding pictures and Jodi made a collage for them. Lots of cute cards and great appetizers. I even took the beautiful bouquet as a centerpiece on the table. Great fun!

Thank you for all your kindness and gifts. I'm so thankful for my daughter, the guys just don't do these things.

Forty years sounds like such a long time, doesn't it? Hurray for them. What a nice looking couple your parents make. And is that a young Melissa in the picture? So very cute.

My hubby and I are coming up on 34 years and all of a suddent forty doesn't seem so far away or so old, either.

Hello, Melissa's Parents...congratulations!
When my aunt and uncle were asked, at their 50th anniversary party, how they'd made the marriage last, they said that with five daughters they couldn't afford a divorce when they'd wanted one and when they COULD afford it they didn't want it anymore... :)
