the more things change...

the more they stay the same!! me, circa 1980, with my nose buried in a book. some of my relatives thought that something was "wrong" with me because i was constantly reading. it's just NOT NORMAL!

i've been perusing and scanning old photos while it snows outside and the kids enjoy their little break from the ordinary. it's loads of fun, and is taking me on several trips down memory lane.

we'll be back monday night!

Awww, what a cute picture! I was a bookworm, too, but what's strange is that neither N. nor S. like to read...IMO that's just NOT NORMAL, or is it?!?

Me too! But really, what did they expect? I lived in Arkansas.
I am sure someone in your family encouraged you though?! And what a good habit to have!

What an adorable picture! Good for you for sticking to your guns and being an "abnormal" reader!

My mom used to say the same thing to me. How does one read too much??? I wish I still did :) I love old pics too.

Very cute picture. :)

Love that you read so much that they thought there was something wrong with you...I've heard that too, that kids won't develop enough socially or physically if they're always in a book. I disagree wholeheartedly.

lotus-- i guess we can't pass along a reading gene, huh? too bad-- it'd be fun to read the same books and talk about them.

beenzzz-- i LOVE old photos! even other people's. maybe it's my love of history and human interest??

angela-- my nuclear family encouraged me... it was extended family that thought i was weird! and i mean, yeah, i AM kinda weird...

susan-- i think wild horses couldn't have dragged me away. i'm like roald dahl's "matilda" in that sense, i guess!

autumn's mom-- there is no such thing as too much reading. too much sudoku, maybe, but not too much reading.

j-- really? won't grow? well, i guess if they never get up, but i got plenty of physical activity, too. and NOW i read on the elliptical at the gym. i think reading especially gives you greater empathy.

I finally am able to get to your comment section. I'm so happy that you are and were a reader. Your blog fans do not know that you taught yourself to read when you were a bit over three years old. I cannot think of anything better than reading. It is the basis for all learning.
