deterioration

monday was a teacher workday, so the kids had a vacation day from school. yahooo! it was SO enthralling that they each came up with their dream for the day.

s's dream was to have her face painted like the one in our face painting book entitled "japanese doll." we did her hair in flowers and bows, and altogether i think it turned out pretty cute.

h's desire was to go to the "wooden park"... a big park with a wooden playstructure that we hadn't been to in a long time. the upshot was that we had to pack a picnic lunch also. done! what a fantastic idea for such a lovely 70 degree and sunny day. they bounced...
they pretended...
then they swang...

...ran, rolled, climbed and got red-faced and exhausted. we ate our picnic lunch of peanut butter sandwiches...

and by this time, with all the activity and fun, s's look had deteriorated to this...

she looked like she had mascara running down her face and was completely bedraggled and happy.

it was a good day.

That sounds like a perfect day. I cant wait for it to warm up enough to go to the playground.
I love the Japanese doll idea. She looks very pretty even after the makeup started to melt. And H looks very happy to be at the playground, what a good mama you are.

That sounds like the funnest day!! S looks awesome with her Japanese style makeup. Zoe wants to go on a picnic somewhere nice when the weather improves. She's off for spring break next week, so I might have to indulge her. :)

Sometimes when I need to relax, like I'm giving blood or having my blood pressure taken or something, I stop and remember days like these...days that stand out in my memory as extra wonderful ones with my hubby or child. :) This one seems like one for the memory books, extra special because it would normally have been a school day.

ml-- thank you! although i did copy the design, it's not a melissa original.

gmcm-- i live to take days off with my babies. much better than sitting in front of the computer.

secret pal-- it was! and we even went to target afterward.

beenzzz-- how about a picnic in the foothills of the wasatch mountains? lovely...

j-- exactly! my friend anne would say, "go to your happy place..." and this day at the park would be one of them.

oh melissa, what a great mom you are!! I think s's makeup stood up very well to that abuse, I still recognize it at the end :) You have quite some talent, my kid would have looked like she went through the paint wash and got hosed down :-) It's days like those that your children will remember, isn't it wonderful??
