more kindergarten design

each year at halloween we decorate the big orange door to the garage with a pumkin face. since s seems to be hitting a creative stride (and she was up early this morning) i asked her if she'd like to help. i told her to design a pumpkin face on paper, then we'd cut big black shapes of it to stick on the wall. here's what she came up with! i love it!

we decided to put the face AND body of the pumpkin man on the door, and here's the final result. witchy-poo is posing next to it in full regalia-- hat, broom and black cat. and the ever-appropriate witch attire... the batman jammies.

now i'm wondering what other fascinating decorating ideas she'll have for halloween! according to me, it's the most fun holiday to decorate for, but don't ask me! ask s, the new design expert.

Way too cute! Where did she get that broom? I'm a witch this year, and I might need one!

hi, j! oh, that's just the broom i ride to the grocery store... *cackle*. we've had that thing for years, and i want to say we got it at michaels. there's a great tshirt at darlingmummy.com with an image of a broom and the caption: "frequent flyer." check it out!

I love that orange door and the bookshelves, too. Your little witch is darling. Tell her I adore her artwork. I'll bet she's tickled that you did this to honor her creativity. You're doing a good job, Melissa. May I be ever so brave as to inquire what the green thing is on the bottom shelf? Looks so whimisical. I told my husband that I would like him to build me some floor to ceiling shelves, the problem is where?

I love the sensitivity in the pumpkin - like, clearly he would be sensitive about the roundness of his head and would try to balance things out by having such a squariffic body. That's awesome.

booklogged, i'll answer your bookshelf question here, and hope you see it! the shelves are 6.5 inches deep, and are just right for the narrow hall. they're made from masonite, but we reinforced each shelf to avoid sagging. i llloooovvvve them, and it solved our dvd problem. the whimsical green toy on the bottom shelf is s's happy tree friend toy. don't tell anyone i let her watch the animated shorts of htf. they're gruesome, and nothing a 5 year old should ever see!

jay, there IS something whimsical about that pumpkin man, and i think you nailed it!

Awww, very cute, Melissa, I LOVE the cute lil' witch get-up, Mr.Pumpkin and the beautiful orange door - just my kind of color! WE've been so busy with Thanksgiving here I haven't had much time to think about Halloween, but your post has inspired me to get cracking!

A lovely post, as usual. Thanks!
